Photography

As a photographer and digital artist, I approach my work through Wabi-Sabi eyes. My purpose as a photographer is to find beauty and mystery in abandoned places and objects and present them to the viewer in hopes of expanding their vision of beauty.  I also like to capture people in everyday life experiences.

Architect Tadao Ando describes Wabi-Sabi as underplayed and modest, the kind of quiet, undeclared beauty that waits patiently to be discovered.  For me, this describes my photography and artwork perfectly.

I don’t consider myself a purist when it comes to photography.  The artistic and creative side of me often takes control of how I see things.  There are times when the traditional approach speaks to me, but my end goal is to stir up an emotion, memory or nostalgic feeling for the viewer.

I use textures and layers to achieve the final results in some of my photography. Abandoned places, lost and decaying pieces of everyday life capture my imagination as a photographer and gives me inspiration. Old cemeteries of the south, especially Louisiana pique my interest in the lonely and lovely.

I hope you find the Wabi-Sabi in my photography.  May the images connect with you and stir your soul.
